Chipotle peppers are dried, smoked red jalapeno pepper. The word “chipotle” is a compound of two Nahuatl (Aztec) words: chilli (hot pepper) and poctli smoke). Chipotle has a strong smokiness, however underneath the smoky and fiery heat is a sweetness. They have a medium-level heat with 2,500 to 8,000 Scoville heat units.
